  • F. Otto Haas Stage at the Arden, section: A, row: 7, seat: 5
    Falsettos
Nice view and sound from a center seat in the house right section (where the orchestra is for this show). Open caption display is on the far wall, but still plenty viewable.
  • Delaware Theatre Company, section: Left, row: G, seat: 101
    Once
Close enough to hear and see everything; far enough back to get the full perspective of the stage.
  • TD Pavilion at the Mann, section: Lawn
Philadelphia Orchestra tour: Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert
For popular concerts like these, your best bet is to arrive early (ideally, as soon as the gates open) and secure your spot. You should expect people to take up every inch of the lawn that they can!
  • Forrest Theatre, section: Orchestra R, row: R, seat: 20
    Some Like It Hot
The photo is panoramic, so the stage is closer than appears in the picture. Never had to strain to see facial expressions. The very edge of stage left is cut off from view, though you don't substantively miss anything. Sound is fairly loud, as you are directly in the sound path of the above-head speaker. It's a mixed blessing: The sound is alternately clear and over-exposed.

    Death Becomes Her
While the seat is a bit far from the stage, only the very top of the stage is cut off from view by the mezzanine overhang, and I didn't feel like I missed anything substantive. You are near above-head speakers, so the sound is more than sufficient, and you can see enough of the actors' facial expressions to feel invested in the show.

  • Mainstage at the New York City Center, section: Balcony, row: E, seat: 140
    Love Life
Just a bit right of center. Good sound. Decent sightlines. As usual, your views of the stage are contingent on whether people sit back (good) or lean forward (bad), given the steep rake. I personally wouldn't recommend sitting farther back in the balcony than Row E from both a sight and sound perspective.

  • Majestic Theatre, section: Box H, row: 1, seat: 2
    Gypsy
Very unique seat. You can see the full pit orchestra and actors close up. However, the full back of the stage (and nearly all of upstage) are out of view, the sound balance is a bit off, and the moving proscenium columns in the show often cut off the view. The upsides: The seat is a chair that is fully moveable, you get a private space with just you and one other person, and leg and storage room are plentiful. Also (while technically not allowed), you can lean a bit over the railing to get a better view, and you won't block the person behind you.

  • Suzanne Roberts Theatre, section: 1, seat: GA
    Night Side Songs
The musical takes place onstage with everyone near the action in-the-round. IMO, the best seat option (sight and sound-wise) in Section 1 is directly across from the piano. Wonderful show!

  • Todd Haimes Theatre, section: Orchestra R, row: J, seat: 16
    English
Good seat. The set rotates throughout the show so you'll get both good and less good sighlights at various points. For this show, I wouldn't sit any further to the right. Sound is fantastic from here.
  • Mainstage at the New York City Center, section: Mezzanine L, row: J, seat: 7
    Urinetown
Wonderful seat. You can see nearly all facial expressions and have ton of extra legroom with the walkway in front of you. The only bad thing about this seat: The balcony overhang does cut off the very top of the stage.
  • Sumner M. Redstone Theater at the Museum of the Moving Image, section: Rear, row: K, seat: 8
    Inception
Good center seat with eye level also at the vertical center of the screen. The screen feels a bit far away, but it did not impact my enjoyment of the movie.
  • Regal UA King of Prussia IMAX, section: Auditorium 9, row: H, seat: 11
    Oppenheimer
Last row of the theater. The center seats in this row are reserved for handicapped patrons and their companions.
  • Regal UA King of Prussia IMAX, section: Auditorium 9, row: G, seat: 15
    Oppenheimer
Second to last row, just right of center. Row G (or Row H) is an ideal view, in my opinion, given the size of the screen, so your eye level is at the vertical center of the screen.
  • Film Society Center Mainstage, section: Rear Orchestra, row: P, seat: 10
    Psycho
Dead center seat in the second row of the elevated rear, which has stadium seating. The railing in front of Row O will not get in the way of your view. Ideal sound and visuals, with one's eyeline right at the center of the screen.
  • AMC Lincoln Square 13 IMAX, section: Auditorium 13, row: M, seat: 22
    Dune
Largest IMAX screen in the U.S. Picture was taken from the last row at 0.6x (no other way to get the full screen in the frame). This is the closest non-handicapped/companion seat to center in Row M. IMO, this is the ideal seat given the huge screen size.
  • AMC Southdale 16 Dolby Cinema, section: Auditorium 6, row: J, seat: 11
    Nosferatu
Nearly dead center (the best seat in the row is J9). Fantastic vertically centered view with great sound.
